Joe’s Review: Juno

January 22, 2008 by Joe

Hi everyone, just returned from the movies! Didn’t get to see 27 Dresses as the girlfriend wanted to, but that’s only because it was sold out. Surprising that so many people would go to the movies on a day before work, but hey.. it happens. She was actually pretty disappointed and I’m going to try to get it in sometime this week. Don’t worry babe, we will be going to see it. You did watch the Patriots game with me… so I owe it to ya!

Anyway, after much debate between The Orphanage, National Treasure 2, and Juno, we ended up going to see Juno, even though she had already seen it. Hey, it is a benefit that we don’t pay for movies, right? Anyway, we didn’t see the first because the bulb in that theatre was dying (tip from the brother, who is a projectionist there), and neither of us had seen National Treasure, so we thought it rather pointless to see part two. I’m really glad we saw Juno though, because I thought it was excellent.

Juno follows the story of our little heroine, Juno MacGuff, as she deals with teen pregnancy. Her child is fathered by Paulie Bleeker, who is played by the always good Michael Cera. Juno goes through all the stages of teen pregnancy, from wanting an abortion, not being able to go through with it, to telling her parents and finding suitable adoptive parents for her child. Also along the journey, she becomes good friends with the father who is going to adopt her child, and realizes that she has actually found her true love. Of course, there are many other things that happen, and also some truly hilarious things. I don’t want to ruin this one at all, and I really suggest that you head out and go see this one! Here’s the trailer if you need some more persuasion…..

Her father is played by the hilarious J.K. Simmons… I always seem to like his character in movies. I really liked how everyone in the movie just seemed to work.. they all reall embraced their roles. :-)

It’s a complete movie from beginning to end, and you can really relate to the characters in it. I only wish I had seen it earlier.. it’s excellent! This one gets a 9 out of 10 in Joe’s world. That’s two 9s in the row this year, with Cloverfield, and now Juno!

Did anyone see Juno? What did you think?

Not that I’m recommending NT2, but you wouldn’t have been missing much - the second is essentially a carbon copy of the first…

Glad you liked Juno. It or The Orphanage would have been the correct choices. ;)

Haven’t seen Juno, but I want to.
