You Ever Watch a Movie Because

January 11, 2008 by Joe · 5 Comments

You knew it would impress the person that you’re with? I’m guilty of that sometimes. In fact, my first “date” movie was Save the Last Dance. That’s something that I definitely wouldn’t have seen on my own, but you know what… just about every girl I’ve dated has seen that movie and loved it. They also seem to like the fact that I’ve seen the movie. I also might own it. But I’m not going to admit to that.

I’m sure that some of you know that once you start a relationship, it’s now a couples decision as to what movie you see (if you go to the movies). I’ll admit that sometimes I’m not a huge fan of the movies I see, but sometimes I do end up watching movies that I never would’ve watched on my own, and actually enjoy them. I know that I’ll probably get some crap for this, but chick flicks aren’t bad all the time.

Some movies that I enjoyed that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise:

  • This Christmas
  • Save the Last Dance
  • Step Up
  • Madea’s Family Reunion
  • Diary of a Mad Black Woman

I think that the next movie I’m going to tentatively see is going to be 27 Dresses. My girlfriend really wants to see it. Here’s the trailer:

What do you think? I told her that I wouldn’t see it until she wore a dress. lol. I’ve never seen her in a dress so I think it’s a fair trade!

Anyway, have you discovered any gems because you ended up watching a movie that you never thought you would, but did because you wanted to go out with or impress someone else?

Movies this Weekend! 1/11/08

January 8, 2008 by Joe · 6 Comments

Hi everyone, I meant to post something yesterday but I fell asleep. I’ll save that post for… tomorrow? I’ve got to feature another blog… and I’m going to pick one from that comments post I left a while back. Don’t you wish you commented? No? :-( Fine! Lol.. just kidding. Again, I appreciate all of you, and I’m going to do my best to try to revive this blog. But I can’t do it alone! I need all of you to continue reading and letting me know what is good and what is not…I don’t write just for myself, but for you as well.

My internet is not cooperating too well right now, so let’s get to the movies. I’ll update with poster pictures later!

The Bucket List - A comedy/drama starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. These two men play two guys who are getting close to death… so they create a Bucket List… A list of things to do before you kick the bucket. Against the orders of their doctor, they check out of the hospital and start to discover themselves, travelling all around the world, and doing many crazy things. They soon learn that it’s never really too late to start living your life, and sometimes you just need to set a deadline in order to get things done.

In the Name of the King - A Dungeon Seige tale featuring Jason Statham. Directed by our favorite video game to movie director Uwe Boll, this movie tells the story of peasant who is drafted into war after an evil sorceror threatens their kingdom. As the King and his loyal magus begin to get overrun, Statham’s character and two loyal friends trek on a dangerous resuce mission to save their kingdom.

First Sunday - Starring Tracy Morgan, Katt Williams, and Ice Cube. Two guys are small time criminals find themselves with a few days to pay $17,000 of debt or Durell (Cube) will lose his son. To come up with the money, the two come up with a scheme to rob the local church, only to find that someone has done it before them, and they are forcd to go and try to solve the mystery. Faced with more than they can deal with, hilarity ensues as the duo try to weasel themselves out of their own situations.

Nothing too spectacular this weekend, I think that I might see In the Name of the King, though it is a very long movie and I probably won’t have time. First Sunday might be a good screening movie, and I know that I’ve had the stupid trailer stuck in my head for weeks now as we constantly play it at the theatre!

Do you guys plan on seeing any of these movies?

One Missed Call = One Sucky Crowd

January 6, 2008 by Joe · 5 Comments

Well, after getting only two hours of sleep on Thursday night, I was actually looking forward to the small number of openings we had this weekend, including only one sucky movie.. or one I thought was going to do poorly, One Missed Call. However, when a horde for 12-13 year olds began showing up for this movie (it’s PG-13), I knew that I might be in for a long night.

Starting at about a half hour before the show started (7:40 it started), I began making walk-thrus of the auditorium to try to get some order in there. It sounded like a middle school cafeteria in there. People were yelling on their cell phones, running around, and pretty much screaming and talking the entire time I was in there. However, since the movie did not start yet, I couldn’t really do too much except ask individual groups to keep it down a bit.

Even before the movie started, I had people coming back out and asking for refunds, saying that they didn’t feel like babysitting all night, and they couldn’t believe how loud those kids were. I completely understood their point, and I admit I felt the same way about babysitting those kids all night. I was just hoping that there wouldn’t be any issues.

Of course not. Just as the movie was starting, a group of kids walked in through the exit door of the theatre. Projection informed us, and we quickly went in to check their tickets. Some of them did, some didn’t, but the commotion had already started. People were mad that they were sneaking in, and made it known vocally. After about 5 minutes of people yelling at each other, we finally managed to get some order in there, and I hoped that things would settle down in there.

Trying to do some work upstairs, I get called downstairs, saying that I need to meet them in that particular auditorium. When I got inside, I saw that some food and drink had been thrown in there, and there was some very upset young ladies that a drink had landed on them. To add to this, there was a guy who was outside threatening to hit the kids and strangle them. Apparently, some kids weren’t mature enough to see a movie in public. Yes, it is a horror movie and some noise is expected, but it is not expected that you throw food or yell unnecessarily in the theatre.

Monitoring what happened in there afterwards, the same guy who threatened to hit the kids started screaming at them in the theatre. I should have removed him for that, but there were only 10 minutes left in the movie and I was hoping to escape without having to pass the entire theatre. It turned out that I did have to give out a large amount of passes, but not as many as I thought I would have to. What was worse is the attitude of the kids who stayed to linger around the lobby, making fun of employees and generally ignoring me when I asked them to leave.

So where does this all go? Parents, I urge you to make sure that your kids know how to behave in public before you let them loose. I’m not there to baby sit all night, and I didn’t like that I had to for this movie. How would you like it if they treated you like they treated the people who work at the movies?

Images to come later… internet not working too well.

Coupon Jellies

January 4, 2008 by Joe · Leave a Comment

Now that is one interesting name for a website. You don’t usually associate coupons and jelly, unless you are buying jelly, and using a coupon. Hmmm.. ok so I’m not the most creative person, but that’s why I show you the movies and I don’t make them myself! Who knows though, maybe one day.

Anyway, onto our friends over at Coupon Jelly. As you might have inferred from the name of their website, this is a site that offers coupons that you can use towards online purchases. An example that they have is for Dell Coupons. That could save you a bunch when you’re buying your next Dell, so when you think Dell, think Jell! Ok… I tried. And failed again miserably.

If you head over to their website, you find a spiffy site where you can search for coupons to use online. The team over at Coupon Jelly guarantees that they won’t rest until they find the best possible deal for you. That’s a pretty big promise, let me tell ya. With more than 20 people scouring the web for you, you’re sure to find a great deal. They save you all the trouble of having to go look yourself. You can just go to one website, and search for the deal there instead of jumping from site to site. A pretty neat idea, in my opinion.

Movies This Weekend!

January 3, 2008 by Joe · 3 Comments

Edit: Looks Like I was right about this one… my buddies over at Film School Rejects gave it a D+. Check out the review: One Missed Call

Hi everyone, I know this is really late, but the holidays have once again cut into my posting time.. I’ve actually been spending time out and hanging out with real people. I miss my blogging buddies, so I knew I had to get this one out. How was your New Year? Good? Awesome? I hope that it was awesome. I went over a friend’s house and we played outburst. Now I need to go out and buy that game for the new house.

Anyway, on to the movies! There is one major release this weekend, so I’m going to go a bit more in depth about it. The release this week is One Missed Call.

The basic premise behind this movie is that before you die, you will receive a call straight to voicemail. Upon listening to the voicemail, you will hear your own death. While you can delete the message, your number is still up. The movie follows a group of people who have this happen to them, and how they try to avoid and ultimately solve the mystery behind the deaths.

While this could have been a great concept if it were released a few years ago, it appears to be trying to follow in the footsteps of previous horror thrillers too much, with some of those being absolutely terrible. The Ring provided a good introduction into this genre, with technology causing deaths, etc, but the films that have followed, such as Fear dot com, and now One Missed Call, appear to be trying too much.

To add even more, it’s only rated PG-13, so it’s not going to be a terribly gruesome movie or have something else that horror junkies are looking for. The studio releasing it picked a good week with no competition, but I can honestly say that I have little to no interest in seeing this one. I don’t think I’m even going to be screening this one…

It might be a week to catch up on a movie that you may have missed. I recently saw I am Legend (which I still need to review for y’all), which was excellent. Alvin and the Chipmunks has also been performing very well, and has had me singing the “Witch Doctor” song as I help clean the theatre, lol.

Well, if you’re still interested in the movie, here is a trailer for it. I’m disappointed that this is the initial offering for this year, but it still looks to be a great year for movies, so stay tuned, it’s going to get better!

What will it sound like when you die?

Shopping for Furniture

January 2, 2008 by Joe · 1 Comment

As some of you may or may not know, I’m going to be moving into a new house in about 3 weeks. (I’ll post pics once I take some more, the ones I have are too incomplete.) That being said, I’ve been doing a lot of bedroom furniture shopping lately. It’s been quite the experience… it’s so difficult to find a set that you like, within your budget, and then it has to fit in the room too! Needless to say, it’s been a long journey. I’ve finally found a set that I like (and my parents too!), but now the only problem is I have to wait 10-12 weeks for it to arrive! I hope that it doesn’t take that long, but who knows. I know that I’ll be sleeping on a sleeping bag or air mattress for a little while at least.

I have to admit though, it’s been a lot of fun.. I’ve seen some great and some terrible sets at the same time. It’s going to be awesome when I finally get it! I’m upgrading from Twin to Queen!!! :-)

This is a sponsored post. Even though I was going to post something about this anyway, YAY!
