Movies this Weekend! 5/2/08

May 1, 2008 by Joe

Hey everyone, I hope you’ve been enjoying the new site. I know that this post is late and some of you have been looking forward to it, right? Anyway, let’s get on with the movies, since that’s what you’re really looking for!

This week doesn’t feature too many releases, which I’m assuming is due to major competition factors. That being said, you do have some options, but I still think that the majority of people will be going to see one particular movie… try to guess which one! Also, I’d like to mention that at some point soon, I’m going to be starting a monthly contest, where you can try to make your predictions of the box office top 5, in terms of order and total gross ($). I’d like to be able to give away an Amazon.com gift card every month, but we’ll see how it goes. If there is enough interest, the prize may get even better, who knows?

Here we go!

Iron Man PosterIron Man - Rated PG13, Directed by John Favreau.

Tony Stark is a brilliant, billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped, and forced to build an extremely destructive weapon. However, instead of listening to his kidnappers, Stark uses his genius to construct a high powered suit of armor, which he uses to escape. After uncovering a terrible plot which could have global implications, Stark once again dons his armor, vowing to protect the world from the danger that it could face.

Joe’s Take: I think that Iron Man is not going to disappoint. There is a ton of hype behind the movie, and with good reason. Some people I’ve read have already seen it, and they’ve given it great reviews. Not too much you can’t like about one of the greatest comic heroes going to the big screen…. wait hasn’t that happened before? :-P Anyway, I predict that Iron Man will be by far the number one movie this weekend, raking in about $75 Million, making it officially, according to Intermission at Work, the first summer blockbuster. Not that you needed my help to figure it out.

Made of Honor PosterMade of Honor - Rated PG13, Directed by Paul Weiland

Tom has a great life. He’s got great luck with the ladies, a successful career, and a friend he can always count upon in Hannah (Michelle Monagahan). She’s the one thing that stays constant in his life, and he doesn’t realize how much he misses her until she takes a 6 week business trip to Scotland. After realizing this, Tom vows to ask Hannah to marry him when she comes back. There’s just one problem though. Hannah comes back from Scotland engaged to be married to a wealthy Scotsman and plans to move overseas. To make things worse, Hannah asks Tom to be her “Maid” of Honor, which he reluctantly accepts so he can try to woo her back.

Joe’s Take - Meh. That’s all I can really say about this one. It’s another typical romantic comedy. Any other week, and I think that a movie like this would have a shot. However, based on terrible initial reviews from the critics over at Rotten Tomatoes, and a huge force in Iron Man, Made of Honor will likely fizzle this week. A weak #3 for me, taking in $9 Million.

Well, there it is, your major releases for the week! Images for this post were graciously provided by Movie Poster dot Com. Do you plan on going to the movies this week? If you do, send me an email and let me know how your experience was. I’ll compile them and put em all in a post, so that you can see what the people are thinkin’!

Oh, and don’t forget, I’m offering $1 ads for 30 days until they’re all taken up… take advantage of (what I think is) a great offer!
