I Can’t Imagine a Movie Without…..
May 4, 2008 by Joe
What? A lot of people come to the movies because of “the experience”. But then again, less people have been coming to the movies than ever before. Some people might even consider it a waste of time. Then again, there are always those of you who have positive experiences, created by unique things done by the theatre itself! Fletch recently tells about one of his experiences at a local suburban theatre. What they did there made the experience for him, and he’ll be back because of it!
So I ask you, what is it that brings you to the theatre? Or what is it that leaves you not going to the theatre? Is it:
- The Popcorn and Snacks?
- The Big Screen?
- The Sound?
- The Crowd?
- Something Else?
For me personally… what is it? Check out the video below!
I push the experience, so you know that’s not it! I really enjoy seeing some movies with a huge crowd. For example, Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay was really helped by having a crowd there to share the laughs. My girlfriend and I actually wished that the crowd was a bit bigger so that it could have been even more fun! Some places do it right, and some places don’t. I personally strive to try to make the experience better for at least one person per day. It’s a goal that I can often meet, and one that I think makes everyone happier.
With changes coming to the movies every day, how has your experience changed? For better or worse? What is that one thing that keeps bringing you back? Let me know!
Oh, can you also let me know anything you want me to change about the videos? I’m still pretty new to vlogging!

One of the main things that keeps me away from my local cinema is the price and the fear of wasting my money. the disappointment of leaving a cinema, having spent upwards of £6 for something that I haven’t enjoyed, but have sat through for 3 hours with a faint glimmer of hope that it may pick up in 5 minutes far outweighs the pleasure of seeing a good movie at the cinema.
What does keep me going to the cinema though is the sheer size of what I am seeing. No home cinema experience can compare to seeing these films as they were meant to be seen. The huge screen, the belting sound system and squeaking, uncomfortable seats, the children talking and kicking the back of your chair.
An unforgettably drab experience most of the time.
Hey Philip, thank you for the comment. I totally understand the fear of wasting your money. Movies are getting oppressively expensive. Unfortunately, there’s not too much we can do about it due to the high costs of production and the desire for movies to make money. I am very lucky that I get to see movies for free…. it takes away that regret that may happen if a movie is really bad. I can just say “well… at least it was free.”
Perhaps I can help you out here at some point and give out some free tickets to the cinema. I don’t know if they’ll work in the (UK)? I’ll figure out something… maybe have a contest!
Hey - I LOVE your new theme! It is very professional looking! Hmmm, if I only I could get mine looking this good….anyway…
What keeps me from a specific theater? Uncleanliness. I cannot stand for there to be popcorn all over the floor, sticky stuff in the seat cup-holder, missing toilet paper from the bathrooms, etc. etc. I’ll go across town to a different theater if I think the one that’s closer is dirty.
What brings me back to a specific theater? Obviously, the opposite of the above. But other than that, I’d have to say the movie selection and the cost.
And here’s my grand suggestion for all theaters: RUN SPECIALS!
Thanks for the compliments! Wordpress is a lot easier to customize than Blogger, which is why I moved.
Agreed on your uncleanliness thing. I don’t like that happening at my theatre at all.
And there are specials! My company offers $5 movies before noon on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays!
I also like your set alot more organized:-) and as for the movie scene being a former employee i also think movies are way to expensive especailly if it’s not good but just like u i also saw movies for fee and it really didnt matter to me but for other customers its different. Many companies have discounts just a suggestion i want to add save a little money. As for where to watch your movie each atmosphere is different depending on your location some theatres may be better than others
I have to say. A free ticket would bring me back everytime too! I saw 2 movies back to back on Saturday. First we saw 88 Minutes, then Baby Mama. But I digress…I guess I can’t imagine going to the movies without Damian, since he usually pays!
Hey Steph, glad to see you here! I think you’re solidifying the fact that I should try to give away some free tickets! I’ve just got to think of the best contest that I can run to give em away. Any ideas anyone?
Overally, it’s been pretty easy for me for the last 20 years. The local chain here (which is also the leader locally) is a favorite, as they present a classy theater that (usually) is above average in terms of cleanliness, price, etc. They’ve changed a bit for the worse over the years (they used to play classical music before the movie started, but now they’re on Screenvision/commercials - blah), but I understand the need for additional revenue there.
Also, they provide $1 refill cups and t-shirts that get you a free popcorn when you wear it to the theater, so concessions never cost us much.
Hey, that’s great! Even though i get free tickets, I still have to pay for concessions, so it’s a bit of a bummer. I actually usually eat before going to the movies :-/ SHHH.
I actually work at my local theatre, lol. It is part of a big chain though. BUT we give free refill - singular- on large popcorns and drinks! I like the idea of $1 refills on all drink sizes though…
