Jerk! at the Movies #2

May 24, 2008 by Joe

I really didn’t think I’d be updating this feature again so quickly, but I really need to right now. Sometimes people can be the biggest jerks without even trying. I mean, these people weren’t mean, they didn’t do anything really personally to me, but they still really really made me mad. Ok maybe not extremely mad, but I was definitely ticked.

It was a fairly slow night (strange, since it’s the second day of Indiana Jones being open. That was another disappointment, but I really think it’s more because the theatre I work at is old, and doesn’t have all the cool amenities new theatres have. It’s nice, but that post is for another day.

Back to the Jerks. So I was just walking around, making sure that things were going smoothly when one of our newer employees comes up to me, and tells me he just had a little issue in the bathroom. I immediately thought overflowing toilet or something, but he continued on to say that he saw a couple kids tossing ALL the paper towels in the bathroom all over the place. We started walking towards the bathroom, and he pointed out the two kids he saw. One of them ran right back into their movie. The other was a bit slower, and I caught him before he got too far.

“Hey buddy, you want to go back in there and pick up what you just threw all over the place?”

He realized he was caught… said “Fair Enough”, and went in and cleaned up after himself as I watched him. When he was done, he left. The new employee and I finished tidying up a bit in the bathroom, and we walked out. A few minutes later, the same employee walks up to me. The same two kids had taken all the paper towels in the other bathroom and clogged up the toilets. ARGH. WTF?!?!?!. That’s what ran through my mind.

Let my boss know that I was gonna go look for them, and pull them out to talk to them. He said to call their parents if I could find them. Luckily for them, I couldn’t find them. I so would have called their parents. I wonder how it would feel to be the one to get that call.

“Hello Sir/Ma’am, I’m a manager at the movie theatre, and I’d like to speak with you regarding your son. Apparently he felt it was necessary to shove paper towels everywhere in the bathroom, clogging up our toilets and making a huge mess. This is not acceptable, and I’m asking you that he does not return to this location. Can you please come to pick him up?”

Yup. That’s what I’d say. Man, writing this post really makes me feel better. It’s good to vent. :-) I hope you enjoyed!

You are a nicer guy than I am. I would of had the one I caught point out his friend, had them both clean up the bathroom, then when the bathroom was done they would of been both asked to leave.

Vent away. Little p**cks like this is why I sometimes hate going to the movies. I want things to be rated 18 just so I don’t run into half of them.

Rafa and Phil, I’m glad to hear you agree with me! I actually was going to tell him to get his friend and have him clean as well, but we didn’t really realize how much they had done until we checked the second bathroom.

That’s an interesting rating system, I’ll have to look into it, Phil.

You’re a very angry man, I think. If you just settle down and focus on yourself (not reccomending that you become one of those uber self absorbed people or anything) and making your life better then all these things that you get so upset about won’t matter as much anymore. I’d think that after working at a movie theatre for more than five minutes you’d realize that kids are pretty much all idiots and will do stupid, thoughtless things. Actually, thinking about it, maybe you should find a job where you don’t have to deal with kids. Or people in general. Good luck with your job and I hope that you become a happier person.

Haha, Sarah I think if you met me you’d find that I’m not angry at all. This is meant to be more of a fun column where I can share some of the crazy things that happen at the movies. Just have to write it in a way that makes it seem more interesting than it might be… right?
