Is Hollywood running out of ideas?
September 10, 2008 by Joe
With the weak product that has been available recently, it’s given me a lot of time to think about things while I’m at work. Today, for example, I was talking to another guy there about what would happen if Hollywood ran out of ideas for movies. He said that they’d just go back and make sequels out of everything. Ugh. That’s one of the things that annoys me the most… not everything should have a sequel.
A great example of this is Hostel. The first Hostel movie was groundbreaking, and really brought the torture-porn genre to the forefront. What was even better is that the movie was made on a a tiny budget, and ended up making a lot of money. After the success of the first film, Eli Roth was given the green light to make a second Hostel movie. Should he have done this? I’m not sure. After seeing the first, I really wanted them to make a second. After seeing the second, my feelings changed. It was ok, but not an idea that should have been recycled.
In addition to recycling film ideas, Hollywood is also becoming more and more guilty of repackaging movies. For example, College, which just recently hit theatres, feels like Superbad. Strangely enough, almost a year ago, Superbad was the number 1 movies in theatres! It’s a really strange coincidence, right? Halloween was repackaged as a Rob Zombie film one year ago too… and we know how well that did.
All this being said, I’m no script writer, and I definitely don’t write screenplays. I have no idea how hard it can be to come up with original ideas. I can sympathize because sometimes it can be really hard for me to come up with post topics for this blog, but it’s not writing a movie (or is it?). The writer’s strike this year may have hurt with the recently released movies, and there are so many other factors that may have come into play.
Still though… I’m imploring you, Hollywood… give me something original and exciting… Please!!!

Hollywood is always drawing from a global pool of influences and foreign movies that just don’t have the cash to go full blown large scale. Still, by the constant recycling of ideas a lot of soulless movies are being produced.
I guess the demand for a constant supply of new movies is so vast that a lot of stinkers are inevitable…
Oh well, plenty of good stuff to go around too!
I think you guys should make a movie off the book series, Warriors. I have read all six of them, and their great! They are purfect movie maltirial! They are about cats, and ther clans. Thats right, cats live in clans! it might sound weird, but they are action paked, and full of adventure! The main charecter in the first six books is, fireheart. He was just a regular house cat, until he finds out about the cats in the forest. He was first known as, Rusty, a house cat, then he became an apperentice, then known as Firepaw. Then he becomes a warrior, known as Fireheart. Then he becomes the leader of his clan, known as Firestar. There are four clans of cats. There is Thunderclan (Fireheart”s clan), Riverclan, Windclan, and Shadowclan. Fireheart develops enemies over time, one main one is Tigerclaw. But if you guys ever read the books, I wouldn”t tell you what happends. In other words, I wish and hope you guys make a movie out of just the first one. If you guys plan to do more, great! I absoultly LOVED the books, and they would make great movies! Thanks for listening!
Hi Alexis… I haven’t heard of that movie before, but I will take a look for it and let you know what I think!
