Movie Theatre Chains: Can you tell?

September 11, 2008 by Joe

Here’s something I’d really be interested in learning from the readers of this blog.. and anyone else who might just happen upon this from the interweb.  My question is:

Can you recognize the different theatre chains?

Having worked in movie theatres before, I can definitely tell the difference.  That, however, probably comes with working in the industry.  There are so many chains out there that people might not be able to tell.  Theatres work really hard to brand their product, so I basically want to know if it’s working!

I guess from the question above, I can also pose this question:

What is your favorite theatre chain?

I know what mine is.. but I probably shouldn’t post that here.  If you want to know, feel free to contact me and I’ll let you know.  Gonna set up a poll for this one… make it the question of the month!

Let’s put in some incentive to vote… bloggers… if you vote and leave a comment, I’ll put all the entries into a hat and give away some free advertising here… and possibly some movie tickets to one lucky blogger!  I really want to know what you guys think about this, so get voting and commenting!

What is your favorite Theatre Chain?

In Phoenix, the main chains are AMC and local-born Harkins (now expanded into CA, NV, TX and possibly other states), and UA has a couple theaters left (down from quite a few 20 years ago).

Mrs. Fletch and I (and my parents) are extremely brand-loyal, only going to Harkins, unless we absolutely have to go elsewhere. I hate AMC - Harkins has always passed itself off as a higher class of theater, and I like that. I always think the AMCs are dumpy, and their popcorn stinks.

Hey Fletch, too bad you’ve had bad experiences with AMC! Where I am, almost everything is an AMC, but it might be different because all the theatres here are former Loews/General Cinema theatres.

How about your experience with those? The dumpier theatres may be old GCCs… :-P, even though I love those theatres.

I had to vote for Regal because that is the only one in my town!

I voted for AMC - I’ve worked for both Regal and Carmike and have to say that both companies treat their employees poorly. I’ve never worked for AMC, but have enjoyed visiting their theaters. They are cleaner than both of the others I’ve mentioned, and I’ve had a much pleasanter experience. Hope I’ve helped!

Nice to hear from you guys… keep the votes coming in!

I worked for Regal for a period too, Sadie. It sucked.
