Movies This Weekend! 9/19/08

September 17, 2008 by Joe

Hey all… had a bit of a disaster last night at work, and when I got home I really wanted to watch House, so apologies for not getting this out yesterday.  We’ve got a pretty good slate of movies being released this week, and speaking of slates, are there any interested in Movie Moguls?  If you saw my recent post on it, you’ll see that the results were really close last time and it got pretty intense, even with just two studios.  Anyone interested?  In any case, lets get to the movies this weekend:

Ghost Town, Directed by David Koepp, Rated PG-13

Ricky Gervais plays a man who dies during an operation.  After the procedure, he finds that he can now see ghosts, and they’re haunting him with all of their issues.  Because of this, he finds a new appreciation for life.

Igor, Directed by Tony Leondis, Rated PG

Igor PosterIn a land of mad scientists and diabolical inventions, Igor is born.  He’s different, because of the hunch on his back.  This twist on the classic horror movie has Igor, a lowly assistant with a dream.  He wants to be more than just an assistant.  He wants to be a scientist.  When his master kicks the bucket a week before the annual Evil Science Fair, Igor gets his chance.  With the help of a couple of his friends, Igor sets out to create the most evil invention of all time, a huge, ferocious monster.  However, he ends up creating Eva, a giant actress who wouldn’t hurt a fly.  Just as he’s about to give up, Igor and his friends discover an evil plot that threatens their world, and must fight to save their world, proving that anyone can become a hero.

Lakeview Terrace, Directed by Neil LaBute, Rated PG-13

Lakeview Terrace PosterA young couple has just moved into their dream home when they become the target of their next door neighbor, who disapproves of their interracial relationship.  Unfortunately for the couple, he is a tightly wound single father, who is also on the LAPD.  The self-appointed watchdog for the community, his nightly foot patrols and overly watchful eyes bring comfort to some, but increasingly harrassing to the new couple.  These intrusions ultimately turn tragic when the couple decides to fight back.

My Best Friend’s Girl, Directed by Howard Deutch, Rated R

Tank is a master at seducing and offending women.  He specializes in taking other guys’ ex-girlfriends on the worst date of their lives, an experience so terrible they go running back to their exes.  When Tank’s best friend gets dumped by his girlfriend, he gratefully offers his help.  However, Alexis is the first one to call his bluff, and Tank finds himself torn between his loyalty to his best friend, and his love for Alexis.

Joe’s Weekend Outlook

I don’t think that any of these movies stand out that much, but there are definitely some that I want to see. First choice is probably…. Lakeview Terrace.  Just something about Samuel L. Jackson that makes me want to see the movie.  It looks like it could be funny and have a good story at the same time.  Second is… I’ll admit it, My Best Friend’s Girl.  I really have a thing for Kate Hudson, and I’ll admit that I’ve seen most of her movies.  The other two don’t interest me too much, but I’ll probably take a gander at Igor. Well.. I might see Ghost Town too.. it could be funny.  Ok I really like going to movies, gimme a break!  What are you guys headed out to see this weekend?
